Color Range to Mask by Jens Kafitz

Color Range to Mask  is a powerful color selection & grading tool.

It allows for up to 8 colors to be sampled (4 additive / 4 subtractive) complete with auto-selection enhancements

and grading of selected colors

Performance

Due to the size of the node it can help performance to bake down the resulting mask.

'Clone & Merge' is a helpful tool to create a paintable mask for it.

On 1x8k UDIMs performance differences of  3-6 fps were seen in the viewport.

A complete Feature Demo is available on Vimeo:

Please note: The video demonstration is done on an older Version of the Node. Some features of the current one are missing in the video

Node Overview

Node Properties

Preview

Allows you to show the result of the Channel without the Adjustment applied.

This is useful for color picking. How the background is shown depends on your settings for

'Wipe' and 'Selection Preview'

A viewport wipe between picked Colors and Background. The wipe position is in percentage of your

paint buffers width. Moving the Paint Buffer will change the position of the wipe midpoint

Flattening

Flattening the resulting Mask with a Wipe set to lower than 1.0 will result in an incomplete mask

Will reverse the Mask/Background from left/right to right/left

Determines the way the Mask Preview is shown. This is in line with Photoshop's "Select Color Range"

Preview Options. Setting the mode to 'Greyscale' is the same as turning off 'Show Background'.

Global

The Amount of Colors to be sampled for additive selection (max 4)

The Amount of Colors to be sampled for subtractive selection (max 4)

Will overpower the Additive Selection (negative values) or Subtractive Selection (positive values)

The higher the value the more you will blow out your selection

Will Invert the selection result.

Additive Selection

The Color Picker Slots for additive selection.

By default only A is active unless you change the value in the "Global"/Additive Slots" Section

Will expand the selection of color.

Activating Color Slots

You need to set the values for 'Additive Slots' under 'Global' to use more than one color.

Subtractive Selection

The Color Picker Slots for subtractive selection.

By default deactivated unless you change the value in the "Global"/Subtractive Slots" Section.

Will expand the selection of color.

Activating Color Slots

You need to set the values for 'Subtractive Slots' under 'Global' to use subtractive selection

Enhance Selection

Enhance Selection will try to close small gaps in your selection by internally applying a curve to values and saturation.

The min point of the curve along which values and saturation are evaluated. Low values here will give broader selection results.

The max point of the curve along which values and saturation are evaluated. High values here will give broader selection results.

Grade Mode

With Grade Mode activated the Color Range to Mask Node becomes a fully functional selective color corrector.

.

Activating Grade Mode

When Grade Mode is checked, all options under the 'preview' group ('show background', 'wipe', 'selection preview') will be ignored

Hue Shift in Degree on a Color Wheel.

Additive / Subtractive Saturation Change.

Sliders are ranged up to 10.0 to allow for easy modification of colors with a mask value lower than 1.0

Additive / Subtractive Value Change.

Sliders are ranged up to 10.0 to allow for easy modification of colors with a mask value lower than 1.0

Gamma correction controls for selected colors.

Simple Contrast control

Value at which point 'contrast' tips towards black or white.

Will Clamp the Output of Grade Mode to 0-1 to avoid Blow outs
